Fife Golf Courses
Scotscraig Golf Club
Part links, part heathland, Scotscraig is the 13th oldest golf club in the world and is a course you cannot afford to miss. Playing over undulating terrain accuracy is certainly more important than length; rewarding the player who is able to plan each stroke with the next one in mind. Since 1984 the course has been chosen as one of the local venues to host Final Qualifying whenever the Open is held at St Andrews.
The Old Course, St Andrews Links
The oldest course in the world and a 29 time host venue of The Open Championship. It’s no surprise that for all golfers around the world it is the ultimate bucket list golf destination. With its double greens, crossovers, challenging slopes and gaping bunkers, there’s nothing quite like it in world golf. Any golfer travelling to St Andrews for the first time is likely to be as excited, nervous and even overawed as it is possible to be by the sport we love. Simply the most atmospheric course in the world.
Kingsbarns Golf Links
The course opened in July 2000 to rapturous applause. Situated just six miles from St Andrews, Kingsbarns is an important addition to the ancient links courses in the area. One of only a few true links courses to be built recently along Scotland’s coastline, it fully deserves its status as one of the greatest links courses in the world.
Crail Golfing Society
The Crail Golfing Society is recognised as one of the oldest golf clubs in the world and is a well established favourite of the many golf visitors to nearby St Andrews. Boasting two very different layouts, Balcomie Links was laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1894 while Craighead was created by the acclaimed American golf architect Gil Hanse.
Dumbarnie Golf Links
The very latest Scottish links course built between Lundin Links and Elie in the golf Mecca of Fife. Dumbarnie Links opened, in challenging circumstances, in Spring 2020. Designed by Clive Clark and operated by OB Golf Sports Management, the focus is very much on ensuring an exceptionally enjoyable golf experience for all playing abilities. The rave reviews from this exciting new venue has ensured this ultra modern links has immediately secured a top placing on many golf course bucket lists.
The Jubilee Course, St Andrews Links
The third oldest course at St Andrews opened in 1897 (named in celebration of diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria). The Jubilee was upgraded to championship standard in 1988 and has hosted a number of amateur championships. Set on a narrow strip of land The Jubilee may lack the double greens and shared fairways of its close neighbours (The Old & The New) but does play in the familiar out and back format.
The Castle Course, St Andrews Links
Designed by David McLay Kidd and opened in 2008 as the seventh member of the St Andrews Links Trust’s portfolio, The Castle course continues to divide opinion. A selection of reviews produces a broad range of comments. A brutal golf challenge; outstanding golf course design; wonderful; exciting; crazy greens; memorable and entertaining.
What cannot be denied is that The Castle is a cliff-top links style layout with stunning views and a rich variety of holes.
Lundin Golf Club
Located in the historical area known as the East Neuk of Fife, Lundin Links was originally founded in 1868 with the course being shared with neighbour Leven Links. Today’s course is certainly a challenging one and is regularly used for Final Qualifying when the The Open Championship makes its regular visit to The Old Course. Featuring blind drives, numerous deep and punishing bunkers, an ever present wind and excellent greens, Lundin is another great example of just how strong the courses are in Fife before you even head into St Andrews.
